I am going bored out of my mind searching for jobs all day. I need a part time job whilst I hunt so I can earn money, keep the old ticker active and learn some new skills. I've always wanted to work in a clothes shop, so when I saw a job opening for my favourite clothes shop (H&M) I jumped on it like a car bonnet.
It was a
surprisingly long application for a sales assistant. Whilst I'm a clothes
retail novice, I worked in a supermarket for 7 months and think the customer service
skills required are very similar across the two. Based on this, I was feeling
quite confident that my supermarket experience left me in good stead for this
job. Compare my skills to those needed in H&M:
Working the
tills- Yep, I can do that. Cards, cash, touch-screen, you name it.
Packing items
into bags- I'm practically an expert.
Smiling and
being polite to customers- Second nature.
Folding clothes-
Questionable. Based on the state of the clothes strewn on my floor it screams not
qualified, but if I was getting paid to fold clothes then that’s a completely
different story. I’d fold a diamond if I was getting paid.
Surely I can get
this job?
No.
No I can’t.
I am not suitable
for their shop apparently, I suspect based on the fact I haven’t worked with
clothes before, that question seemed to pop up a lot in the application. So close yet so far to a discount…such
disappointment.
I'm never
baring my heart to you again H&M! I hope whoever you picked was right for
you. Treats you right, loves your clothes, is always respectful to you, makes
you cups of teas and takes you places… you don’t know what you’re missing
sistahhh.
